Excerpts from Father Bartholomew's Journals:

Winter, 2AC

The scouting party, or what is left of it, has returned to us. Some of their stories are so horrifying, that I shudder even now to think of them. Of the 20 that left, only six made it home, and those that did make it back are obviously changed by the months they spent out of our peaceful town.

While they reported that the areas near to us seem to be relatively safe, talking of the areas further to the west fills their eyes with dread. From what I can ascertain, these areas are full of lush forests, murky swamps, and marshlands. Perhaps the most disturbing revelation however, is the tales they tell of deserted towns much like this one. Unfortunately, for more than one member of the party, these areas were not as deserted as they seemed on the surface. Many lives were lost to marauders and beasts that defy description. We are nursing them and watching over them carefully, as they are plagued by nightmares, and their bodies are often wracked by tremors as they sleep.
